Mine started out as a 117. The first G3 upgrade was a 333. After about a
year it started freezing the 'book whenever the Sonnet extension loaded.
Disabling the extension would allow it to run just a little slower. Sonnet
said that meant that the L2 cache was bad and replaced the G3 card under
warranty with another 333. This one lasted about 3 months and did the same
thing. They replaced this one with the 400 and it's been about 2 months so
far with no problem. I used v1.4.7 with the original 333, the second 333
came with 2.0.2 as did the 400. I had read on this list about XLR8 Mach
Speed control panel that could be used with other brand upgrades. I
downloaded this (v1.4.3) and am now using it instead of the Sonnet
extension. They both do the same thing, activate the L2 cache, only the
XLR8 lets you adjust the speed of the cache and it seems to do more testing
and can throttle the speed back in case of problems.

Mine has the full 64MB and I replaced the original 750MB HD with a 2GB model
a year or so ago. Mine runs happily with the 64MB but it doesn't like the
Apple External video card. When this is installed the 'book freezes like it
did with the Sonnet L2 problem although it usually gets past the Sonnet/XLR8
extension, sometimes all the way to the desktop before it freezes. Pull the
card and it runs fine. Reinstall and it's back to crashing at random
places. The card works fine in another stock 117 that I tested it in.

As for wireless, I ordered a RoamAbout card from Wegener Media for $28, they
say it will work with my G3 upgraded 1400 and comes with drivers for 9.1.
This was cheaper than I got the Orinoco card for, wish I had found it first.
But since I know the Orinoco worked on a PC laptop, maybe I can pawn it off
on a PC using friend :).
