I am looking to untether my PB1400 and go wireless. Read thru some of the
archives and did some googling. Bought a Proxim (Orinoco) Gold PC card,
model 8420-WD. Downloaded the Orinoco drivers and installed. My home
network router already has a wireless access point built in.

When the card is inserted, I get a message about the correct software is not
installed to use the card. If I cancel, the card mounts to the desktop as a
Wireless PC Card Model 0111. The Orinoco control panel says the card or
driver is missing. Neither of the LED's on the card light.

Took the card to work to try it on a Windows laptop. Once the driver was
loaded the card was recognized and running some diagnostics that were
installed shows the card to be working although there are no wireless
networks at work to try connecting to. One of the LED's would also go on
and off.

So, why doesn't my Powerbook like this card? Is it not the right kind of
card to do what I'm looking to do? Anyone have any ideas or tips?

For the record, Powerbook 1400 with a Sonnet G3/400, OS 9.1, 64MB RAM.
Orinoco software that was installed was v7.2. I currently use a PowerPort
Platinum PC card for a tethered ethernet connection. Tried the wireless
with and without the PowerPort card in.

Thanks in advance for any help.
