Sorry for the late post, hope this helps.

I have a LaCie FM Radio.  Love it!

The problem may likely be that, since the 540c does not have hardware
playthrough, the software does playthrough by writing the music to the
harddrive and then reading (playing) it through the speakers.  This is
what causes the delay and I can hear my harddrive constantly working. 
The best solution I have been able to find is to simply plug my
headphones or speakers into the speaker out (headphone) jack on the end
of the FM Radio box.
