The 3400 expansion bay is pretty fast, relatively speaking, which is why it
is able to support up to a 20X CD-ROM, Zip drives and even VST expansion bay
hard disks. And of course, the 3400 CPU is also the fastest thing going in
portables until you get into the G-Books.

Desktops use the old Apple 20-pin floppy interface, which can't carry data
as fast. I never noticed much of a difference, but then again I haven't used
floppies on Macs very often for years. My VST Zip just about lives in my
3400.
