5300 memory allocation- VM or RamDoubler 2?

I have a powerbook 5300 with OS8.1 and 24 mb memory (8 mb + 16 mb ram 
card). I have SpeedDoubler 8.12 installed. Due to the relatively 
small memory, I have purchased RamDoubler2. However, I wondered if 
there were updaters that need to be installed for it to work with 
OS8.1? I can't find the Connectix site to get any updaters, if they 
exist.
Secondly, would it be better to use RamDoubler2 to set the memory 
allocation to 48mb, or better to set the Virtual Memory Control Panel 
to 48 mb?
