Apple replaced my whole logic board in my iMac (bad firewire port) under AppleCare and now no serial number or purchase date shows up in System Profiler. Of course, the number is still physically on or in the case. So, when I call Apple about this computer I have to get out the original paperwork to find the info. Since it's not a PB it's not easy to turn over. Does the serial number show up in system profiler on these PB's you're looking at? I don't remember if the earlier systems showed that. i think maybe that started with System 8.

Is there any legit reason powerbooks I buy at auction have the serial
numbers removed? They look to be from legit dealers/individuals but I am a
bit concerned. Is this something commonly done, say, for off-lease units,
or ? Would you have misgivings about buying from such folks in this case?
Thanks for any info
