Older OS's can also set up "ad hoc" networks--the two powerbooks can 
access each other via just the cards.  I did that recently with a friend 
who was trying to see if his setup would work and we didn't have an 
ethernet router handy.  With the Proxim/Farallon Skyline software that 
came with my card, all I have to do is click on the wireless icon on the 
desktop, choose "Network (SSID) and then choose "create ad hoc" from the 
list.  The software does the rest.
