Andrew,

By all means replace the PRAM battery, a trouble shooting guide I've used on 3400's calls out :
replace the PRAM battery, then the Power Supply Module, and last the Logic board, after the usual series of resets and as a another member mentioned leave it plugged in for a day or so and try the series of resets after you replace the PRAM battery. A common problem with these machines is a failure in the power control logic or path that I call Acute Sleeping Sickness, because the first symptom is a failure to wake up after sleep without a reboot. Good luck, these are great machines and considering their low cost are well worth the effort to get them running.
