Like I said, go to ftp.mozilla.org, start with 1.2.1 or earlier (and I doubt 1.2.1 will work, pick something earlier), and start trying versions out against gmail.
I'd happily test for you, but- I cannot, I have nothing pre-9.1 any longer.
I suspect Mozilla is the only hope, and I don't have much hope for it- and it seems like Howard has tried everything else. Howard, you indicated I'd see that Mozilla would not work when I skimmed the thread- but I saw nothing about Mozilla that you tried, only Opera. I must have missed it. Yes they are based on the same original source (I think, I lost track of who comes from where and their site doesn't say easily), but they are tweeked sources. Opera/Mozilla: they are not the same. Did you really try the old Mozilla binaries?
