Since you have visited the HP website, you may already realize that this is a known problem that HP claims to be working on. Have you tried their suggested "workaround":

Your case may be further complicated by the fact that you are going through a USB PC card, rather than direct connection to a USB port. Does your USB card come with specific driver? Does it show up on the desktop?
The HP DeskJet 350 is known to be problematic with pre-USB PowerBooks. The very similar DeskJet/DeskWriter 340 works well when connected to a serial port, which your WallStreet has.
