Re Powerbook Duo 210:
Dear Ben, I joined a week ago, and yes, this is the right place, and very
helpful too, although I find it a bit technical, even though I've worked
with Macs for years. I can answer only a few of your questions.
First: In theory, you can do a lot with the Duo, but in practice, it can
take a lot of work to get things going.

convert the 'PS2' style network plug into 10baseT?
The socket looking like a PS2 keyboard socket is the serial (RS422) port,
used both for connecting printers and modems, and it can also work as a
network connection ("AppleTalk/LocalTalk"). But it's too slow for
10baseT. Sorry...

One workaround I've seen (on ebay--look for "SCSI Ethernet") is a
converter for a SCSI port, which is the pre-USB connector for external
harddisks, scanners, etc. The Powerbook 210 itself doesn't have a SCSI
connector, but you can add one by connecting a "mini-dock".
But when you start adding things, I think the better option is to get a
full-size dock and put in an Ethernet card into that dock. I've seen some
of these being offered on ebay, often together with a Duo and selling for
less than 50$. This full-size dock looks like a box, into which you slide
the closed Powerbook, much like you slide a video-tape into a VCR.
