Hi list creatures,
I tried tonight to make a reservation on BC Ferries (up here in Victoria BC Canada), and their website shunted me to a page which tersely informed me that Internet Explorer for Mac won't work on their site, due to a known bug etc.
I recall that Microsoft stopped work on IE for Macs in 2003, because Apple was pushing Safari ( and wouldn't share MacOS code ); they also stopped developing IE as a standalone program for Windows, instead planning to integrate it into their OS ( again! ). . .
BC ferries' page suggested I use Safari, Mozilla, or Netscape instead.
Now, I've been happy with IE, find it much smoother than Netscape (which I used for years), or at least compatible with more sites. I've accumulated hundreds of bookmarks (ie Favorites), and umm, I'm USED to it. I can run earlier versions on my earlier Powerbooks (when I have time to spare), which saves me learning a new protocol/set of commands.
If I were to adopt a new browser, which one would be an intelligent choice? Keeping in mind that I plan to run my Powerbook into the ground, running OS9.2.2. My older 'books run System 7.1, so I assume their Internet lifespan is severely limited.
Safari requires OSX, as far as I know.
I'm not sure Netscape is still evolving. Has it improved in the last few years?
Mozilla seems to be a work in progress.
I'm open to all suggestions, and just want something reliable and easy to use, like I have now.
Input from list members who've been down this path, would be valuable and appreciated.
Particularly if the information is current :)
Many thanks.
m
