When the conversion to EIDE was made.


Drive Setup still has all the old, obsolete SCSI drives enumerated 
therein.

Usually, it is possible to support a normally unsupported drive by 
duplicating the entry for, say, a Seagate ST-15150N, which is a supported 
drive, insert that copy into the drive table as ID=128, and then modify 
the identity string to specify the (unsupported) drive you have.

I have been able to support all kinds of OEM drives, like those normally 
supplied in arrays, in this way.

Netapp-branded, but Seagate-made 10,000 rpm 36 GB LVD/SE drives have been 
particularly good when supported thusly.

For "difficult" cases, I use Hard Drive Speedtools ... but only as a last 
resort.
