Next question; If I buy a PCMCIA card with Ethernet,
what are the chances that will work in this computer,
since the built-in Ethernet doesn't work?

It'd *better* work, since the PCMCIA circuitry is entirely independent of the onboard ethernet. If it doesn't work, then you have *serious* problems and will need to call in a voodoo doctor....but that's an entirely different email list.
