Can you now get files onto your 190 with the program association intact?
No, but ...
I wrote some instructions on how to change the FileType if you have FastFind in your Norton Utilities Toolbox, but do you still need that?
Here's the beginning:
Mac OSes older than OS X use hidden "file name extensions": 4-letter combinations identifying File Type and Creator. This info is not in the data part of the files, and when you receive Mac files on a Linux (or Windows) computer, only the data part comes through, and the Mac has no way to know if these files are applications or what.
If you know which File Type a file has been, like "APPL" for programs, you can restore it manually with a utility program like Norton's FastFind.
I just tried Fast Find, and it allowed me to change the designation from ???? to TEXT, which lets me open text files. So far, changing ???? to APPL hasn't let me execute any of the files I thought should have been applications, but I've only had a few minutes to try things. They may actually be archives, but Expander hasn't recognized one yet, either.
All the formerly inaccessible text files, however, have little squares at each end-of-line. I remember having seen something that will strip DOS linefeeds out of text files...
