Granted that the Kanga, et. al., have a "zoom video" PCMCIA slot, which
is apparently compatible with that same slot on the Wallstreet, that same
slot where the Wallstreet's DVD decoder card is inserted.

That's curious. Are you sure you had all the right extensions installed? Peter Liethen reported that he got the card to work on his 2400c, and that's an older PowerBook than the Kanga. <http://www.liethen.com/filia-ul-copt/dvd/index.html>
