Hey, I have a PowerBook 1400cs/133. I was wondering if there was any way to increase the performance other than upgrading anything. I have OS 8.1 installed and 32MB RAM and a 1 GIG HD. Thanks!
___________ Run a plain background in reduced color or even gray scale. No virtual memory. Set up a RAM disk and copy programs to it before running them from RAM.
Run a minimum of extensions. Set up extension sets that have the minimum for the program task. Set up several and switch according to the work you need to do.
minimum size on icons and text.
Keep program memory allocations as high as OS overhead and physical RAM will allow but you will only run 1 program at a time.
OS 8.1 should be the best for this as it has a small overhead to begin with.
You could even try 7.53 perhaps. But 8.1 is probably more stable, not sure . It's been a long time.
All I can think of for now.
Mine has 40 MB and runs 9.1 but it's a Hog for this machine. I just like the features.
Fast enough to do good Photoshop on smaller pics . And handles Clarisworks quite well. Even in thousands of colors. at 166 MHz. And 800X600 aspect.
ITunes works well if run alone. And will even do small graphic visuals.
