But that " Golden Ratio " of OS version spec to CPU spec would lead a
lot more users to a harmoniously balanced  system.

Which would give longer lasting joy.

If it were only that simple; while you can count on the CPU's, my experience is that each OS has it's strengths & weaknesses, quirks & holes, albeit some more than others. I must say I have wondered about people wanting to put OS 7.5.x on their boxes instead of 7.6.1.


7.6.1 is rock solid in comparison to any of the 7.5's, but hey, everybody's gotta have a hobby...
