The WS II had cache on all models: 233 (512K), 266 (1M) and 300 (1M)

The WS I had cache only on the fastest models: 233 (no cache), 250 (1M)
and 292 (1M).

Get a 250 or 292 MHz card for this machine.

A WS II CPU card WILL NOT WORK in a WS I.

Other way around. WS2 CPU works in a WS1 mobo, but not the other way. Anyone have a good idea why ? I have a theory if anyone is interested.

It's best if this is the 14.1" screen model.

The other models are not as interesting, and probably aren't worth
spending any money on upgrading.

All 233 models (WS I and WS II) are rock solid. The 292 model (WS I only)
is solid, too. The 300 model (WS II only) is flaky on account of
inadequate cooling, especially if the RAM is maxed out, or the DVD card
and drive is inserted.

I had an idea about taking the modem out and mounting a small fan there.

You can get around the cooling issue by getting a CPU upgrade with a cooler running CPU.
