Ian,

I am hardly the expert here, but I seem to recall reading that the 1400's Infrared port was NOT IrDA standards compliant. To the best of my knowledge, the Infrared will only work to communicate with another 1400.

Anyone feel free to jump in and correct me if I'm wrong on this.
