Hi, 'Bookers.

Running OS 8.6 on a 1400 I have encountered a message that Disk First Aid cannot repair my HD due to "Invalid Node Structure, 4, 1656."

I've Googled the problem and Disk Warrior ($80 for each computer in the house!) is recommended. Also Norton. An archives search reveals no prior discussion of this problem in these lists.

My question, listers, is: Does anyone have a cheap workaround for this? or, alternately, is Disk Warrior a must-have app?

_______________

When I got my 1400 last year I had the same problem.
This list recommended the DiskWarrior route. That was too hard to do at that time. I could use SCSI disk mode so I copied the files I wanted to another drive and then installed (.1 at that time.. This was because I couldn't get to storage for my OS 8.5 disk at the time.

I am not sure if DW would have solved the problem. Perhaps it would. You may try the swap list. I finally got DiskWarrior there. For less than you quote. And since I run it from the CD and it is not installed on any machine I only need one copy. You need use it on a non-boot drive anyway.

Never did find out what the "Invalid Node Structure " really meant or how it got htat way. Never saw the error before or since. the OS install. Reformatted to HFS+ anyway.

I would recommend a similar backup via SCSI disk mode if possible and a reinstall of 8.6 .

Unless you want to spend money and time.
