I want to connect my 520 to my newer machines via ethernet to

MACTCP 2.0.6. in the Chooser, I have a choice of LocalTalk,
Ethernet, or AOL.

Do I have the proper control panels to do this. Do I need Open
Transport? I don't think it is available in 7.5.5. I don't see
anything similar in the control panels.

Open Transport is certainly available for 7.5.5, but you'll have to
download it from Apple. At the same time get the latest Appleshare
version for your system, which has the Appleshare over IP stuff you
need. (which needs Open Transport to work)

Once those are installed set up tcp/ip to get an IP address
automatically, connect the transceiver to the Mac, the ethernet from
the router to the transceiver and you should get a IP address. In
7.5.5 I think you'll need to manually enter the router IP address,
which is the address of your router, I think that's the DNS address,
too. I forget; DHCP behavior changed between 7.5-8-9 and I forget
where exactly. With 8.1 on my 540C all I need to do is select DHCP.

Now fire up Chooser, click on Appleshare, and if you don't see the
computers in the list, click on Server IP address, enter the IP
address of your OS X macs, and you're golden.

With System 7.5.5 you need AppleShare Client version 3.7.4, if you
move up to OS8 you'll need version 3.8. Both are available from Apple
at the older software page. You might as well make sure you have the
latest Open Transport for that system, version 1.1.2. You may have to
install 1.1.1 first, then upgrade to 1.1.2.

System 7 should pick up an IP address automatically, my SE/30 does
and my 540c did when it was running 7.5.5. I wrote notes a couple of
days ago about file sharing between older OS and Tiger, check them if
that's what you are running. Otherwise AppleTalk will work both ways
and you'll be fine.

I currently have in the Extensions Folder, all turned on:
Open Tpt AppleTalk Library ver.1.1
Open Tpt Internet Library ver.1.1
Open Transport Guide Additions ver.1.3.1
Open Transport Library ver.1.1
OpenOT ver.1.0.1 (this one has a generic icon, which if I remember correctly is not a good sign)

If I download the suggested software (AppleShare Client Version 3.7.4 and OpenTransport 1.1.2, and maybe 1.1.1) from Apple I have to do this on my OS X machine. I can write out a diskette with the files on, if they are not very big. If I go to install them on the 520 will the "install" replace those existing files, or do I have to remove them manually. I have 5 files now there relating to OT in my Extensions folder 7.5.5. Only 2 files are being recommended. I seem to remember getting duplicate extensions in some older systems but it has been a LONG time since I really did anything with system 7 and I may be mis-remembering.
