When a Mac does not have an OS installed on boot you will see a floppy
disk with a "?" flashing on it instead of the happy mac icon. 
Everyone else seemed to answer the ROM questions so I wont cover that.
 One button is all you need as some said already, but on Mac OS 8 and
up you get introduced to Contextual menus which is much like the
Second mouse button on "that other OS"  Most of the time these
functions can be reached by clicking menus or simple with the Command
key (The one with a little apple on it)  Enjoy your new Mac!  I have
the same model and love it.
