Yes, 8.1 and 8.6 are great for the 1400, although it can run OS 9 it is not recomended and startup is very slow. to get the effect of the second mouse button in OS 8 press ctrl+click and a menu will come up, and with the Mac there are mahy third-party apps you can install to customize the menu. Working with mac comes easy after a while, trust me I was a mac newbie two months ago now I can do it all!
