I had similar problems, and they were because the bottom part of the clicker
mechanism had broken off. If you are looking at the clicker mechanism from
the side, it's shaped like a "U" turned on its side. The switch is on the
bottom of the top half of the "U", and it engages the bottom half of that
"U" to activate the 'click'. In my case, that bottom tab had broken off. If
you pushed REALLY hard and/or wiggled the button, you MIGHT get a response.
It's an unfortunate design decision.
To 'repair' it, I taped the bottom piece in place on the board below using a
thick piece of double-sided tape. This secured it and raised it to about the
right level to engage the switch properly again. PITA, though. You have to
take the machine about halfway apart just to get to all this.

Hey there fellow Powerbook lovers; I have a small problem with my 3400C.
It seems that the clicker is stuck. Nothing happens when you click it,
and you can't scroll or anything with it. Also there is a dialogue that
says the clock is showing s date that is wrong. Help please.
