Putting the 3400 back together is pretty easy. Removing the
palmrest/trackpad is probably the hardest.
Although Apple doesn't say it, I never disconnect the PRAM battery cable
or the keyboard cables, if I don't have to - and, other than to replace
a dead PRAM battery, I have never had to. Just swing them up on the
screen. I suggest keeping a cup handy, the screws involved are pretty
small - the three from the bottom and the one holding the speaker
console in place.
I have the "official" Apple take apart guide for the 3400c in PDF. I got
it off the net somewhere I can't remember where. It is also here:

Although this is not where I got it...

The whole process takes no more than 20mins tops.
I have done this with my 3400c and it is still working fine over 9
months of use later.

Hey Vicki thank you for the tutorial on how to fix the clicker on my
Pwrbk 3400c. But I have been reluctant to do any work on my laptops
because i am the type of person who can take things apart but when it
comes to putting them back together something always goes wrong, so I
don't. But maybe this time around I will consider trying to fix it.
