Many weird things happen with dead PRAM batteries, e.g. take the LC
475, where you have to double click the on/off switch to get it to boot
with dead PRAM. Well worth replacing, although give it a week or so of
continuous running on AC, just in case it's not being sufficiently
recharged by your use pattern.
