The Lucent/Orinoco will work from OS 8.1 to 9.2.2, but seem to work best with OS 8.6 or above. To use with OS 8.1 you will need v6 and or v6.3 of the Orinoco drivers. If you can install OS 8.6 on your PB, the use v7.2 of the Orinoco drivers. In addition, Faralon/Proxim Skyline work well from OS 7.5.5 and above, but only support 64Bit WEP. The Asante cards also have drivers for your PowerBook, but the cards are hard to find. My Wireless FAQ has a list of available drivers and cards which will work on your PowerBook. Each card that I have a picture to, has been tested on a PB 1400. It also includes troubleshoot the problems with Wireless on a PowerBook 1400.
