This might sound silly, but have you considered >
that it's fully charged?
Didn't think so since no boxes are lit on the PB
Battery Level Strip even though the power manager
gives up trying to charge the battery.. But I pulled
the charger cord anyway and a popup came on right away
saying in 10 seconds the mac was going down.
Yep, that sounds like a Li-Ion battery that has reached the effective
end of it's charge-recharge life. Li-Ions may not have a memory
effect, but they do have a limited number of charging cycles. When
they get to the end of their life, they die a lot like this.
If all 4 lights come on, that generally indicates
that the battery is
fully charged. If all 4 lights come on indicating a
full charge, you
try to run your Mac from it, and moments later your
Mac goes to
sleep, then you probably have a battery that is
close to death.
Rats. Anyone know how to get these batt cases apart?
Getting that type of battery apart isn't easy. To make matters
worse, recelling a Li-Ion battery is non-trival. You have to find
cells with exactly the same specs for the intelligent battery charger
in your PowerBook to charge it without making it explode or catch
fire.
