Greetings. The problem of the long delay after start-up ISN'T related
to the Control Strip after all, though I haven't totally isolated
cause or cure. Trashing Finder and Control Strip prefs, rebuild,
restart, etc. didn't solve the problem. (Again, I've got a 2400c
running MAC OS 8.6.)
However, here are my first clues toward a solution: 1) I turn-off the
Control Strip Extension, the problem persists; 2) I restart with my
wireless card inserted, and immediately when the delay began before,
the AppleShare dialog box opens wanting me to login for connection to
my desktop Mac (I do have an ORiNOCO module on the Control Strip); 3)
I restart with Extensions off, and there is NO delay.
I conclude, tentatively, that the delay is related to the computer
looking for a way to connect to my desktop Mac via AppleShare. This
happens even though the wireless card is NOT inserted (I, of course,
don't get the dialog box from AppleShare). I don't recall configuring
AppleShare to automatically attempt to connect to a server at start-
up. I don't even know how this is done! But could this be the source
of the problem? How do I turn-off/disable this option?
Thanks for your assistance!
Gary

Hi Gary,
Try trashing the Finder preferences (as well as the CP pref.),
restart with
extensions off, rebuild desktop, and restart again. See if that helps.

Greetings. Sudden issue has arisen when I start-up OS 8.6 on my
PB2400c. Everything on the desktop loads up right away, but the
Control Strip now takes 30 seconds or so to load. I tried trashing
the Control Strip Prefs and rebuilding the Desktop file. What's going
on?! I'm trying to remember when it started, and the only thing I can
think of is that I forgot to eject my ethernet pc card once recently
before a restart. Related? Fix?
Thanks!
