You DO know that computer prices have been *falling* steadily? "Dream
Machine Macs" have not been rising in cost, quite the opposite:
Dream Mac Past: The original, the wonder, the 128K Mac cost $2495 in
1894. Cost in 2003 dollars: $4417
Dream Mac Past: The MacII, with a 40MB HDD cost $5498 in 1987. Cost
in 2003 dollars: $8902
Dream Mac Past: The Quadra 840AV, video editing powerhouse, cost
$4700 in 1993. Cost in 2003 dollars:$5985
Dream Mac Past: The PowerMac 8100, first PPC pro machine, cost $4200
in 1994. Cost in 2003 dollars: $5213
Dream Mac Past: The Sawtooth "Classified as munitions" G4/500 cost
$3400 in 1999. Cost in 2003 dollars:$3756
Dream Mac Present: PowerMac G5 Quad costs $3299 today.

constant dollar calculations. Unfortunately it only goes up to 2003.
Low End Mac database used for historical prices, Apple store used for
G5 price today.
While they may well be beyond your reach, it's erroneous to say
they're being placed ever more outside your reach, at least due to
the "fast rising cost" of the computers.
