I use DiskFit Direct to back up my 2 gig HD to an
external HD. I'd like to install a brand new 40
gig, and also, reformat and have ready to re-use
the existing 2-gig as a simple storage drive. I
want everything in HFS+. So...when i try to
restore the backed up data to the brand new HD,
won't I at least have to have Diskfit Direct
already on the HD? Or, at the very least, on the
Boot CD which should be powering my system until
the new drive is fully in operation?

Should I instead just do a mirror copy of my
current main drive onto a partition of my external
HD, and then just run everything from their? This
is driving me nuts, because the more I try to
calculate and work things out, the more confused
it seems to get. Guess what I need is a simple
set of step by step directions to go from closing
down and removing the current HD through
installing and booting up the new HD. Yeah! That
would help...I think...
