If your provider is like AT&T Broadband (and others) the way the service
works is that they assign 1 IP address to the MAC address of the machine you
originally put on the service. That is the ONLY MAC address that will work
with the service. If you get a new computer and wanted it to be the only
computer on the service then you would call their tech support and they
would have to assign the IP address to the new machine's MAC address.

In other words for the router to work you will have to get them to assign
the IP address to the WAN Address of the Linksys router. Then you will be
fine. The trick is that some providers want to charge you more (in At&T's
case $10.00 extra per month) for a home network. To avoid the extra charge
you can try convincing them that the only reason yo bought the roure is
because your 1 machine was having a problem with their DHCP servers and you
only bought the router so you could have better connectivity with the 1
machine and you aren't REALLY going to hook up any other machines... :-)

After you get that baloney all cleared up you'll be up and running in no
time.
