After Marriage ...20 years ago ... my wife would no longer ride on the Motorcycle. When talking with a group of people, I would say, "Sex and riding on the back of a motorcycle; that's what women do before they get married. Dagger looks. Jobs has marketing genius. But like Henry Ford ( an engineering and marketing genius, whose accomplishments have been dimmed by time) he sometimes steps on his dick. Fords bull headedness in the mid twenties filled GM's engineering dept. with excellent ex ford men. (Now Ford is stealing the Marketing and engineering Talent from others). Ford got to believing his press releases and cupping his ear only when he was talking. Lets hope Jobs has someone that pricks his balloon from time to time. Fords place in history is dimmed by the stupidity of his actions in his old age. In management, the surest route to success is to surround your self with people that are smarter than you. Egomaniacs have a problem with that. When vice Pres & Gen Manager of Actuator Control Technology, I once hired a young man as an electronics tech. He attended the Univ. of Texas at Arlington. When I was interviewing him he mentioned the onboard computer he had built and installed on his Kawasaki KZ440. M/C's, my first love. We went to the parking lot to examine same. I was very impressed. After a little more Q&A period, I hired him on the spot. He aced the final test in his advanced Electronics class. He got a C- grade for the class. When he confronted the teacher, the instructor said, "You didn't do the home work." His reply was," All of this was stuff I covered on my own in the 9th grade. I didn't need to do home work." The Teacher said, "You didn't play the game." The youth replied, "This is MY time you are wasting, at a time in my life that I have no time to waste. This isn't a God Damn Game." In six months, he designed a new unit. Built a prototype. Tested. Laid out the new circuit board with all surface mount components & terminal strips. Fully tested the production version and headed for USC or UCLA ... (I forget). A few months later, he sent me a newspaper clipping about his work on their particle accelerator. He said, "None of us smoke pot any more. The math is so intense, you need all your memory circuits working at their peak."
