Than assign your computers a specific TCP/IP address. The router also provides a firewall. Most routers have a built in 4 port hub, some include a USB port too. My service is ATT@Home. Last year changes in the service were made which made my system a node on their network. I could see other printers and computers in AppleTalk using the chooser. My own printer couldn't be accessed while I was connecter to the network. A router solved these problems. You can expect to pay $80 [ on sale or coupons ] to $150. Some routers aren't configurable on a MAC. If you don't have PC access on your network you might want to choose a router that is MAC configurable. In the $200 to $300 dollar range you can get one with wireless 802.11 [airport] included. An airport base station costs $299, so they are a good deal.
