The Command-option-P-R command doesn't cause the computer to reboot anyway,
so don't worry about that.
As with other users having problems that manifest as no video, try removing
the cache dimm.
This component is usually more troublesome on the PowerCenter models, but
it's worth a crack on the PTP as well when they get cranky.
Also, try booting from a CD or disk tools disk to check that it's not a
corrupt preference file
on the HD OS.
