Look, Cody, lots of us don't know how a computer works, let alone whats in it.
Ask me a question about firewire and I'll say it sounds fast ...what is it?

Good, that means your power supply is getting power to the fan.
Chances are the power supply is working properly.

A while back one of the knowledgeable members on the list posted his tale
of woe surrounding a
dead fan. In a humorous account, he related that he knew there was
something wrong because
his PowerBase didn't ...sound...quite...right.
As he peered into the case, he noticed a wiring connector laying around in
the case.
When he carefully traced the connector back to it's source he discovered it
led to a fan.
At the very moment he realized the fan wasn't moving, and that what he
wasn't hearing was the
fan, and that was why the computer didn't sound quite right...the heat sink
on the processor
blew off and struck the wall a few feet away.

I ain't guaranteeing nuttin' here, I'm just trying to help you solve your
problem.

$3210 for a PowerTowerPro? GREAT deal in 1997, Pretty damn good in 1998,
pricey in 1999,
exorbitant in 2000, ripoff in 2001...hey..it's a computer!
I've got a 2Fx sitting in the cellar...works great...20 mb ram ...cost over
$10000 new extra ram cost another $2500...can't give the sucker away these
days!!

What you DO have is one of the best pre G3 computers made. A top of the
line model that
is as flexible as it get...easily exchangeable CPU, 8 ram slots, 6 PCI
slots and a roomy case
for all sorts of giblets.

What exactly are you using it for?
It's more computer than you need if you're just
doing word processing, in which case, just ask list members here if anyone
has an old
604/132 or the like for sale cheap...like $15...to test your mobo.
If you're a gamer get the latest G4...$3200 these days will get you back to
the bleeding edge which is a must for gaming.
If you're somewhere in between, like most of us, you'll find that your
present course of action
ie.
-try figure it out yourself
-ask for help
-try a few suggestions
-try and try again

you'll learn a few things and feel great about yourself if/when you succeed.

>I'll leave it out permanently. I haven't tested the card without the L2 chip
>in, so I'll do that tonight. I won't get my hopes up though, gut tells me it
>most likely isn't going to work. I'm pretty confident the card blew it
>brains out, but we'll see.

Let us know how it goes...

Cheers...Michael
