Thanks for this posting James, the above suggestions helped us all.
I especially liked 4, and never thought of it or have seen it suggested before.

I had found previously that when the Apple full page monochrome monitor was
unused for a long while, that leaving it on for 15 minutes or so would see the
brightness increase substantially.
I assumed (there's that word) that the same would be true of color monitors.
The above suggestion is unclear whether to leave the monitor off entirely or
on but with no video signal.
Can you expand on the sentence?
