If your ethernet cable isn't a crossover cable, go to Staples or Office
Depot and buy a NetGear four-port hub for $30.  You'll also need to purchase
another ethernet cable.  Attach the ethernet cables from each computer to
the hub, then follow the instructions Gene spelled out above.

I only mention this because (depending on where you live) a hub and an
additional ethernet cable will likely be easier to obtain than a crossover
cable.
