This is just a shot in the dark, but one possible cause of the 
problem is a dead  or weak battery. On some Mac clones like 
Motorolas, a dead battery can make it impossible to turn the unit 
on--even though it is getting power--since the on/off switch is 
powered by the battery. Sounds crazy, but it might be an issue here. 
Was there any evidence of a bad battery prior to this, such as the 
date and time settings being wiped?
