That's going a bit far. Yes, a lot of people of had problems with them. But
far more haven't.

I've a zip connected to my mac, and three others at the office. I've ever
only had problems with one and that was the first one I bought 5 years ago.
After THREE YEARS of daily, constant use it developed click 'o death and had
to be replaced.

In the publishing industry at least, there is no other removeable drive that
is as useful as zip drives - they're very much the industry standard.

To the original poster, there are two things that may work.

First, try holding your mouse button down through start-up. This is an old
method for ejecting a floppy, but on a friend's G3, it does the same for the
zip.

Second, and less likely to work, try holding the manual eject button in all
through start-up. I've read that this resets the mechanism and ejects the
disk.
