Which External SCSI port are you connecting to?  My PCP240 has two external
connections, one that is built-in and one that is on the PCI SCSI card.  The
user's guide states that the external SCSI connector on the card is not
supported and may cause conflicts and performance problems with the internal
drives.  Kind of sounds like what is happening with you.  -Jay
