Hello all, I bought one of teddybut's garage sale items, a Sony cd-r cdu948s. When I hooked it up, I can get it to read cd's but it won't write. It gives me the following message:
SENSE KEY = MEDIUM ERROR SENSE CODE = OxCA POWER CALIBRATION ERROR then it cancels the session. I tried it in simulated mode and it goes through the whole process with no problems. It also will tell me sometimes after the scsi bus is searched, "Unknown driver is installed for the cd-recorder at scsi bus.... If you run into problems, please remember to disable the driver next time." ????? disable the driver? extension? does it mean cdrom toolkit????? When I start it with extensions off, it won't give me this message, but it still does the same thing as described above when I try to write. I've updated my cd rom toolkit with a new personality file, started with extensions off/on, unhooked all other scsi devices, tried an older version of toast, tried toast 4.1.2, played with the terminator (on/off), changed scsi id, tried a cdrw (which it wouldn't recognize at all). The only thing I know to do now is to try it on a powermac 7500 that we have here, try it at home on a windows machine, and/or drive to a big town to buy a different brand of CDR. I've searched the Internet for answers, but most web pages that reference the error codes I received are in Japanese or German or Dutch. It's all Greek to me. Sony's site is useless, and I told them so in an "interactive" support chat session. Has anyone else encountered any of these error messages? teddy said he never had any problems with it, and recommended to blow it out with canned air, I tried that, but it didn't help. Anybody have any ideas?
