Hi All,
I've been lurking for a few weeks and thought I'd check in.
I have a Power Computing (just CAN'T call it a PC!) PowerBase 180 tower
with 96 mb (one 8mb and two 32mb) memory and a 1.2 gig hd. I've
upgraded with a Sonnet Crescendo G3 400mhz. It's currently running
9.0.4. This was my main machine (under original power pc chip) until I
bought a Beige G3 3 yrs ago. Two fairly recent troubles;
1. the cd failed...nada, nothing! Replaced with a Matsushita (sony?)
CD-RW that did not come with an adapter for sound hookup. Any
suggestions? I've looked around online and am about ready to create my
own.
2. A start up problem where the machine would load to the Mac
"happy-face", hang for awhile, then shut down. This was due
(apparently) to a loose memory chip. Pushed it into place and viola!
System back to normal.
Have a usb card and firewire card installed. The usb is fine (only a
Logitech 2 button mouse so far), can't load the firewire install disc
for the drivers, cd works fine in the G3 beige drive, not in the
matsushita on the powerbase...get a growling noise and it just spins.
Doesn't seem to be a vibration, at least not a constant one. Will try
to get driver onto G3 and then to a zip disk tonight.
No graphics PCI card, had an xres, but doesn't seem to work with OS 9,
and there are no updates (or am I wrong?).
Sorry to be long winded (fingered?), and throwing in extra topics, just
glad to find this group.
Power On!
Bob F.
