Well, shame on me for my last reply (the "no subject" one)... I still don't quite know what the deal was w/ those Seagate Hawks... I put them back into their Sun external cases and they work fine. Well, one of them does, anyway. The one that clicks is toast.
I managed to get MkLinux on the first disk relatively painlessly... Then I also managed to get some bad blocks on that disk... So I nuked MkLinux, reformatted, and installed BeOS R4.5... Man, I forgot how awesome BeOS is! Anyone know of a good MP3 player for BeOS? How about a browser? NetPositive doesn't quite do it anymore, and Opera is x86 only. Is there a way to download the Mozilla source and compile it for BeOS w/ the BeIDE? I tried running Netscape in SheepShaver, but it was a little too sluggish for my tastes (even for one who runs Virtual PC fairly regularly). Curiously, I couldn't get my built-in ethernet working w/ my LAN (in either DHCP or manually). Does BeOS do something funny (like wanting to use the AAUI port instead of the RJ45) w/ dual ethernet port PowerMacs? I didn't try out my AAUI Xceiver... But I found out that my DaynaPORT E/PCI 10bT/2 card is supported by one of the generic drives, so I'm happy there... Thanks for the ideas about the drives, though!
