Go for it ! Yes, you will see a significant speed boost, however, there's a catch. The PowerCenter board is set up for 3.3v cache, whereas the PTP board is 5v cache. There is a jumper on the PowerCenter board (although it may not be on every board) that allows a user to switch voltages for the cache dimm. You'll see a significant speed boost on all operations (ie 50% increase in speed) from the CPU, but not so much from the cache upgrade. This is because the 225 is a 604e CPU, with enhanced built-in L1 cache (128k v 64k) over the 150 mHz 604 CPU. The L1 cache and L2 cache dimms speed up repeat operations, and the larger the cache dimm, the more operations can be stored in cache rather than the CPU having to access the HD for repeat info, a slower operation. For that reason the increase to 1mB L2 cache from 512k will be less noticeable than the CPU upgrade. If it's any incentive, the 225 604e mHz upgrades used to run around US$995 (new) and the 1mB cache US$125 (new) when the PowerCenters were still selling.
