I'm not familiar with whatever hardware Alltel would want to install 
in your computer, but...

I've had no problem connecting my PowerBase 180* to either DSL or 
cable modem service.   In both cases, I've had an external "modem" 
(provided by the ISP) which connects via Ethernet to the PowerBase. 
I installed a cheap Ethernet card in a PCI slot on the PowerBase, and 
installed it's Mac driver software.

(* PowerBase with original 603e processor, running Mac OS 8.6; 
Kingston brand Ethernet card; everything running very smoothly.)
