Your SCSI numbering order is irrelevant, just as long as each device has its own ID number. Typically on macs and clones, the CD is 3 and the boot volume is often 0. 7 is usually reserved for the controller card. You can use ScsiProbe or system profiler to show the ID number of devices on your chains. Just pick one that is not used. If there is an unused scsi connector on the same cable, you should be able to connect the drive without trouble. Check your termination. You can select any volume from the 'startup disk' no matter what id it is. G3 or not, you can load osX 10.1.5 on a 120Mhz 604e with only 32Mb of ram. It is slow, but it runs. Forget what you have heard about minimum requirements. As far as transferring files, both computers have ethernet, so make a CAT5 CROSSOVER cable if you have no hub/router/switch and enable file sharing. Lots faster than a slow zip drive. Search google for pinouts if you wish to make your own or your local computer shop should have one.
