The Apple USB driver is always a good thing to try:

This simple step has resolved USB problems for many Power Computing users.

I've never had troubles using PC-formatted Zip disks in Macs.

In fact, Iomega recommends that you use PC formatted disks in your Mac if
you plan to use them in PCs, too.
