When that happens, it says that the clock is set to the wrong time. A "network time error" is when it can't find a server to sync the time with. The clock can be dead on, but if it can't find the server, it will give you the error.

It might also mean that your battery is dead, especially if you acquired the machine from someone who had it sitting in a closet for a while.
